History

Fair Lawn was founded in 1924 by George J. fair, a residential developer. The borough was incorporated as Fairlawn on April 24, 1924, from portions of Saddle River Township and Glen Rock. The name was taken from Fairlawn Avenue in Fair Lawn, which runs from Paterson to Ridgewood and was named for the estate of Mr. fair.
