History
Livingston was incorporated on February 5, 1813, from portions of Fairfield, Essex County, and Springfield Township. The township was named after William Livingston (1723–1790), the first Governor of New Jersey.
Livingston was settled in 1699 by Puritans from Connecticut. The settlers purchased land from the Lenape Native Americans and named their settlement after William Livingston.
