History
Hopkinton, Rhode Island was founded in 1669 by a group of settlers from the town of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The city was originally part of the town of Westerly but was incorporated as a separate municipality in 1727. The name Hopkinton was chosen because it was the name of the original settler’s hometown in Massachusetts.
