History

Fort Hunt is named for the military installation Fort Hunt which operated from 1917 to 1946. The fort was used as a coastal defense site during World War I and World War II. It was also used as a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. After the war, the fort was used as a housing site for United Nations employees. The Fort Hunt military installation was closed in 1946 and the land was sold to developers.
